இயல்பினான் (குறள் – 47)

இயல்பினான் இல்வாழ்க்கை வாழ்பவன் என்பான்
முயல்வாருள் எல்லாம் தலை. (47)

Translation :
In nature’s way who spends his calm domestic days,
‘Mid all that strive for virtue’s crown hath foremost place.

Explanation :
Among all those who labour (for future happiness) he is greatest who lives well in the household state

வாடகைக்கு வீடு தேடிப் போனாலே… கல்யாணம் ஆயிடுச்சா என்று கேட்பார்கள்…

அப்பொ அந்த “வீடு” நிரந்தரமா தங்க நல்ல கல்யாணம் செய்து நல் வாழ்வு வாழ்ந்தியா?? என்று அந்த வீட்டின் சொந்தக்கடவுள் கேட்க மாட்டாரா???

விண்இன்று – குறள் 13

விண்இன்று பொய்ப்பின் விரிநீர் வியனுலகத்து
உள்நின்று உடற்றும் பசி. (13)

தேவையான நேரத்திலெ நல்ல மழை பெஞ்சா… தென்மேற்குப் பருவக்காற்று தேனிப்பக்கம்….என்று ஜாலியா பாடலாம். அப்படி மழை தவறினா..இன்னா பண்றது??? சுத்தி கடல் பாத்து..எங்கே நிம்மதி? எங்கே நிம்மதி பாட வேண்டியது தான்.

Translation :
If clouds, that promised rain, deceive, and in the sky remain,
Famine, sore torment, stalks o’er earth’s vast ocean-girdled plain.

Explanation :
If the cloud, withholding rain, deceive (our hopes) hunger will long distress the sea-girt spacious world.

பேதை பெருங்கெழீஇ; குறள் – 816

பேதை பெருங்கெழீஇ நட்பின் அறிவுடையார்
ஏதின்மை கோடி உறும். (816)

போதையில் இருக்கும் ரூம்மெட்டை விட நல்ல பாதை காட்டும் பக்கத்து ரூம் காரன் எவ்வளவோ பெட்டர்.

அறிவற்றவனது மிகப் பொருந்திய நட்பை விட அறிவுடையானது பகைமை கோடி மடங்கு நன்று.

Translation :
Better ten million times incur the wise man’s hate,
Than form with foolish men a friendship intimate.
Explanation :
The hatred of the wise is ten-million times more profitable than the excessive intimacy of the fool.

கேடில் விழுச்செல்வம் – குறள் 400

கேடில் விழுச்செல்வம் கல்வி யொருவற்கு
மாடல்ல மற்றை யவை. (400)

விழுந்து விழுந்து படிச்சா தான் வரும் செல்வம்..
மத்த செல்வம் எல்லாம் சொல்லாமக் கொள்ளாமெ செல்வோம்ணு ஓடிடும்.

Translation :

Learning is excellence of wealth that none destroy;
To man nought else affords reality of joy.
Explanation :
Learning is the true imperishable riches; all other things are not riches.

ஒருவனுக்கு அழிவில்லாத சிறந்த செல்வம் கல்வியேயாகும். ஏனைய மணி, பொன் முதலிய செல்வங்கள் அழியக் கூடியன. ஆதலால் அவை செல்வங்கள் ஆகா,

குறள் – 964

தலையின் இழிந்த மயிரனையர் மாந்தர்
நிலையின் இழிந்தக் கடை. (964)

மயிர் கீழே விழுந்தா மயிரே போச்சின்னு போயிடலாம்..டீ புரமோஷன் ஆகிற அளவுக்கு வேலை பாக்கலாமா?? எப்போவும் மேலே போகும் வழி மட்டும் யோசிப்பா..

உயர்குடிப் பிறந்த மாந்தர் தம் உயர்ந்த நிலையிலிருந்து தாழ்வாரயின் தலையை விட்டு வீழ்ந்த மயிரினை ஒப்பர்.

Translation :
Like hairs from off the head that fall to earth,
When fall’n from high estate are men of noble birth.
Explanation :
They who have fallen from their (high) position are like the hair which has fallen from the head.

 

குறள் – 1

அகர முதல எழுத்தெல்லாம் ஆதி
பகவன் முதற்றே உலகு.

எழுத்துக்கெல்லாம் மேலே “அ” தான். அதுக்காக கீ போர்ட்ல தேடாதீங்க… அதே மாதிரி… இந்த லோகத்துக்கெல்லாம் டாப்பு நம்ம சாமி டோய்…

குறள் – 82

விருந்து புறத்ததாத் தானுண்டல் சாவா
மருந்தெனினும் வேண்டற்பாற் றன்று.

அமிர்தம் ஸ்வீட் ஸ்டாலில் இருந்து அமிழ்தமே பிரியா கெடெச்சாலும் கெஸ்டுக்கு மொதபந்தி வை. பந்திக்கு பிந்தும் ஆளு தான் வாழ்க்கையில் முந்த முடியும்.

Translation :
Though food of immortality should crown the board,
Feasting alone, the guests without unfed, is thing abhorred.
Explanation :
It is not fit that one should wish his guests to be outside (his house) even though he were eating the food of immortality.

குறள் – 1103

தாம்வீழ்வார் மென்றோள் துயிலின் இனிதுகொல்
தாமரைக் கண்ணான் உலகு.

கண்ணே கலைமானே பாடி தூங்குறதை விட நல்ல தூக்கம் அன்பான கணவன் தோளில் தூங்குவது தான். அது தான் கடவுளுக்கும் டாப்பு.

Translation :
Than rest in her soft arms to whom the soul is giv’n,
Is any sweeter joy in his, the Lotus-eyed-one’s heaven?

குறள் – 393

கண்ணுடையர் என்பவர் கற்றோர் முகத்திரண்டு
புண்ணுடையர் கல்லா தவர். —– (393)

தலை வாரி பூச்சூட்டி உன்னை பாட சாலைக்கு போ என்று சொன்னால் உன் அண்ணை… என் கண் அல்ல… ஆமா… படிச்சா தான் அது கண்ணு இல்லாட்டி வெறும் ரெண்டு புண்ணும்மா… கேளும்மா என் பொண்ணு…

Translation :
Men who learning gain have eyes, men say;
Blockheads’ faces pairs of sores display.

Explanation :
The learned are said to have eyes, but the unlearned have (merely) two sores in their face.

குறள் – 60

மங்கலம் என்ப மனைமாட்சி மற்றுஅதன்
நன்கலம் நன்மக்கட் பேறு. (60)

நல்ல மனைவி கெடெச்சா மங்கலம்.
நல்ல கொழந்தைக இல்லாட்டி மங்களம் தான்

Translation :
The house’s ‘blessing’, men pronounce the house-wife excellent;
The gain of blessed children is its goodly ornament.

Explanation :
The excellence of a wife is the good of her husband; and good children are the jewels of that goodness.
